Ubi tu Gaius, ego Gaia

Translated from Latin, this phrase means "Where you are Gaius, I am Gaia." It comes from ancient Roman wedding traditions, spoken by the bride to her groom during the ceremony. The names Gaius and Gaia were placeholders, representing any husband and wife. This timeless expression, dating back over 2000 years, captures the essence of marriage:

wherever one goes, the other follows, facing life's journey together.

Our Story

Our Story

It was in the historic city of Granada, Spain, where our paths first crossed. Our initial encounter blossomed into a memorable first dinner date, followed by an evening of exploration through the city's charming streets.

As our relationship deepened, we discovered a mutual passion for history, (especially ancient Rome!), as well as a shared enthusiasm for diverse cultures and travel. Throughout our first two years together, we embarked on numerous international journeys, creating lasting memories.

Our bond grew stronger each day, nurtured by the simple joys of shared moments at home. These quiet times together became the foundation of our deepening connection. It was during one such intimate moment, in the tranquility of our Oklahoma residence, that we made the decision to unite our lives. The proposal, whilst private and understated, was profound in its significance.

As we contemplate our future together, we envision a life rich in shared experiences, continued learning, and mutual growth. We are deeply grateful for the journey that has brought us to this moment and are honored to celebrate our union in the company of our dear friends and family.

Our Venue

Our Venue

For us, Rome isn't simply a beautiful backdrop for our wedding celebration. As a Roman historian, Sharon has dedicated her career to studying imperial monuments, while Claybourn shares this deep passion for Roman history. We'll exchange our vows in the Aula Adrianea, built by Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd-century CE, within the historic Horti Sallustiani—one of ancient Rome's most magnificent gardens.

In choosing this remarkable venue, we're celebrating the history of the city where our intellectual connection sparked into romance, as we add our own chapter to Rome's eternal story.
